Four bedroom apartment on the bank of the Danube river

Beatiful design of a four bedroom apartment with experimental layout and material combinations.

Layout

The client approached us with a request for the interior design of a 4-room apartment on the bank of the Danube. The assignment was clear – a bold layout and an even bolder design! From the original layout, we kept a generous day area that offers a view of the Danube; we added a separate bathroom to the master bedroom, and extended the day area with a study that communicates with the living room. We focused on smooth transitions between individual rooms, which we achieved by replacing the sharp corners of the walls with rounded ones. They guide us through the entire layout and encourage us to explore all the nooks and crannies of the apartment.

Contrasts and monochromatism

The supporting element of the entire design is the concrete ceiling, which is recognised as much as possible. In the day area, the concrete on the ceiling is complemented by a microcement floor and custom-made furniture with a predominance of dark-stained wood veneer. The entire interior, which is in monochromatic shades of white, grey and black, is complemented by shades of green, which perfectly complete the selected colour palette.

The design is based on contrasts that we perceive not only in colours but also in structures and surfaces. At first glance, the rough concrete is complemented by the softness of the carpet, and the cold stone is complemented by wood that is warm to the touch. Functionality is not forgotten in our designs. That's why we used acoustic, micro-perforated wooden cladding and also an acoustic painting, which is also a piece of art. And of course, plants! They beautifully decorated the entire space and made it cosy.

Study as an extended living room

Thanks to the fact that the study is separated from the day area only by a glass sliding door, we can perceive it as a continuation of the day area. When the door is open, the entire space is connected and we are drawn in by the distinctive Gemma armchair, designed by the well-known American architect Daniel Libeskind for the Moroso brand.

Bedroom

In the bedroom, we let one dominant material stand out, which was already appearing in signs in the living area – steel, which we used to cover the wall behind the bed. The softness of the headboard and the wooden floor, stained in a dark brown colour, make the contrast. The bedroom may seem dark at first glance, but the opposite is true. Next to the bed there is a large glass area of the window, which provides a view of the city, and right next to the bedroom is the bathroom, decorated in white. There is definitely no need to be afraid of dark colours in bedrooms. They add a certain intimacy to the space.
